The Temptation Story

Temptation science inner voice

Be careful not to fall a prey

To luring weapon of sin,

Be guided by your conscience

The battle you shall win.

Temptation is a very dangerous thing. Before doing wrong, we always hear an inner voice telling us not to do such a thing. It is the voice of God Himself. It is known as our conscience. Conscience is our true guide.

Those who disobey this voice of God, surely become bad. The voice of their conscience becomes quieter and quieter as they go on doing evil. At last, it becomes quiet.  It stops guiding them at all. So, they are unable to make out right from wrong. their repeated wrong actions make them a bad person.

People who can overcome their temptations became really great. Those who obey their inner voice, always find the right path. You will find a number of shining examples of  great people who obeyed their conscience.

  Once Gandhiji stole some money from his father's pocket. His conscience pricked him all the time. He wanted to tell his father what he had done. He wanted to own up to his mistake but he didn't know how to. At last, he gathered courage. He took out a piece of paper and wrote a letter telling all he felt about his mistake. He wrote:-

"Worthy father! I have proved to be an unworthy son. On my brother's inciting I stole some money from your pocket for him. Though I haven't used this stolen money, yet my peace of mind is gone. I am highly ashamed of filing a prey to Satan. God's voice in me is scolding me. I am unable to sleep. I feel I am a blot on your name. Still I feel, you will be kind enough to pardon me. I promise never to repeat a sin like this."

The next morning his father called him. He praised him instead of scolding him. He praised him for his courage in realising his mistake.

In a similar way runs the story of George Washington who became the first President of America.

 On George's sixth birthday, his father gave him a little axe with a wooden handle. George liked it very much. He was so excited that he wanted to use it somehow. In his excitement, he ran to his father's garden. His father had grown beautiful apple trees. George went about the garden cutting everything that came his way and size.

 At one corner, he saw a small apple tree. He was tempted to cut it. He soon cut off all its branches and leaves. The tree was almost dead on the ground.

 In the evening when his father went to his garden to have a look around, he was surprised to see the small apple tree almost lying on the ground. He got very annoyed. He shouted aloud," George! Who has done this?"

 George kept quiet but then his inner voice scolded him. George couldn't bear it any longer. With tears in his eye he said," Father, I am very sorry, I did it. I was so tempted to use the wooden axe that you gave me that I went about cutting almost everything that was worth."

His father at once took him in his arms. He kissed him and said,"I am glad, you told the truth. You didn't have the temptation to tell a lie. I would rather lose all the trees in my garden than hear my son tell a lie and fall prey to temptation."

 Therefore, We must always keep away the desire to do wrong. If we ignore this desire, we will be obeying our conscience. It will help us in not doing a sin and wrong things. It will always give us peace of mind.
