    Many leaders sacrificed their lives for freedom of our country. Mahatma Gandhi was one of them. People call him “Bapu” with love Bapu means "Father of the Nation”. His full name was Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi.

    He was born on 2nd October, 1869 at Porbandar in Gujarat. He was sent to England for higher education. He studied law there. He married to Kasturba.

Mahatma Gandhi was an honest man. He always spoken the truth. He suffered much for freedom of India. He went to jail many times. He followed the faith of Ahinsa, Truth and Peace. He lived like a saint. So people called him ‘Mahatma'. He fought for the poor.

He is known all over the world. He was a true patriot.

He contributed a lot for freedom of India. Nathu Ram Godse shot him dead on 30th January, 1948 in prayer. His samadhi is at Rajghat in Delhi. We respect him very much. We celebrate 2nd October every year as Gandhi Jayanti in his memory.
