A Foolish Donkey Story In English

Long long ago there was a donkey. It lived with his master in a small village. The master of the donkey, being a washer man, loaded it with washed and dirty clothes. 

Thus, the donkey had to work very hard by carrying heavy loads of clothes on its back daily. But all hard work, it suffered, was useless for him as it was not fed properly by the washer man. 

The result was that it grew very weak and fragile. The washer man let the donkey loose at night to go to graze in the fields. Daily in the morning it returned to home in time. 

On a night when the donkey was walking in the forest, it met a jackal. Both of them became friends. 

Now, they would roam here and there in each other's company. One day both of them were on their usual walk. While wandering together , they saw a field of cucumbers. There were plenty of ripe cucumbers in the field. Their mouths watered to see the ripe cucumbers.

Both of them entered the field and enjoyed eating soft, juicy and delicious cucumbers to their heart's content. Now, they had started to visit the field daily to have tasty cucumbers. "Hi, friend! How pleasant and beautiful the night is! There is moon amidst the stars in the sky! I feel I cannot help myself but sing,"said the donkey one night after having a good feast of cucumbers. "Oh no friend! Do not do so,"said the jackals,"We have entered the field to steal and thus, we are thieves. Thieves should remain silent for their own sake. Your singing may invite a great trouble. " But foolish donkey was not to agree with jackal. It said, " Oh my friend! Please do not check me. I cannot stop myself from singing. The weather being very fine and pleasant all the nature and its scenes seem befitting to my sweet song. " The jackal had looked through the coming trouble, yet it advised the donkey, "Friend, sing slowly not loudly. Your voice is very rough and hoarse. It is almost deafening and harsh, " It is totally useless to talk wisely before a senseless person. "Oh friend you know nothing about music. Reality is that you are jealous of my singing, " said the donkey and started braying loudly. "Wonderful and quite melodious friend! You really sing very well the jackal praised, " You can sing as loudly as you wish. I am going out and waiting for you at the end of the field.

Being encouraged by the false words of the jackal, the donkey began to bray more and more loudly.

Now, it was the moment when the keeper of the field heard the donkey braying. He just then rushed towards the field with a long and thick stick. 

As soon as he saw the donkey he began to beat it badly. The keeper beat the donkey with full of his might and up to content. Due to so much beating from the keeper the donkey fell down flat on the earth. The keeper stopped it beating, thinking it being dead.

When the keeper went away, the donkey dragged himself out of the field and reached the jackal. The jackal knew everything. So he said with sarcasm, "Amazing, what a nice and sweet song it was! What a precious gift you have got!" Now,the donkey was very ashamed at the great folly, he had made. "I'm really very sorry, dear friend. If I had followed your advice,

I would not have been put in such a great painful trouble."
