Gautam Buddha Short Story In English With Moral

Worrying about something that is mortal is futile. One should be patient in adversity. One who is not under his control, should not desire him.

Once Gautam Buddha was staying in a village in the kingdom of Magadha. One day he was discussing religion with his disciples, when a woman came there crying and crying.
His son had died due to snake bite. He placed his dead son at the feet of Gautam Buddha and said, "Lord! I have heard your name a lot. You bring my son back to life."
I can't survive without it. That was my only recourse."
Gautam Buddha said in a humble voice, "Sister, there is no immortal in this world. One who takes birth here is sure to die, so don't grieve."

Hearing this, the woman said in an angry voice, "I have not come here to listen to your preachingI want my son back."

Gautam Buddha understood that this woman would not be able to understand the truth of life due to excessive suffering.
At this time nothing is visible to him more than the love of his son, so in order to make the woman know the truth, Gautam Buddha said, "Sister, I will bring your son to life, but you have to do one thing."

The woman immediately said, "Whatever you say, I am ready to do."
Gautam Buddha said, "You ask for a handful of rice from somewhere and bring it; but those rice should be from a house in which no one has died."

The woman left her son's body there and went in search of rice. She went to many houses to get rice, but she could not find any house in which no one had died.

If a woman's husband was dead, in some house the wife was dead. Some's father was dead, some's mother. In such a situation, from whom would he get a handful of rice?

Disappointed, the woman returned to Gautam Buddha. Gautam Buddha asked, "Did you bring a handful of rice?"
The woman said, "No Lord!"
Gautam Buddha said, "But why, hasn't anyone given you a handful of rice?"
The woman said softly, "No Lord! It's not like that.
People were ready to give more than a handful of rice, but there was no house in which no one died."

After listening to the woman, Gautam Buddha said, "Do you still want your son?"

The woman said in a calm voice, "Lord! Now I have come to know the truth. I am not the only woman in this world who has not faced such misery.
Now I know that one who is born must die one day."

Gautam Buddha said, "I am glad that you have come to know the truth. When this body is about to perish, it is useless to cry for it.
Death is the constant of life, it is the truth. Now go and perform the last rites of your son."

The woman left with her deceased son. Now seeing the miseries of the world, his mind was calm.
