    India is a vast country. People of different castes, communities and religions live here. They have their different type of thoughts and habits. Sometimes their habits and behavior are harmful to the society. So our society is not free from evils. These evils come in the way of the development of our country.

Superstition is one of the greatest social evil. Many people believe in evil spirits and ghosts. Sadhus and cunning people take advantages of such people. People who have no children of their own, are said to sacrifice of animals and human beings. Some people do strange things to get wealth.


Dowry system is one of the greatest curse of our society. It has disturbed the peace and happiness of home and society. In the past, parents gave dowry to their daughter at the time of her marriage. It was a kind of gift. Now it has become essential for the bride to bring dowry.

The evil effect of dowry can be seen in our social life. Many girls are burnt by their in-laws because their parents cannot give dowry. Serious steps must be taken to solve this problem.

    Drinking and gambling are also social evils. Some people have formed the habit of drinking and gambling. After sometime, the drunkards and gamblers spoil their health. They become burden to their family.

The caste system is doing a great harm to our country. Politicians seek votes in the name of caste and community. All of us must be aware of these social evils.
